Top tips for visiting museums in London

As museums are one of the popular destinations for people spending time in the capital, here are our top recommendations to beat the queues and get the most out of your day.

  1. Book in advance:  Not only will this save you time but will often result in a saving on the walk-up price that you’d pay at the admission desk.  Most museums and attractions now allow you to buy advance tickets via their website or a trusted partner such as Get Your Guide, who sell tickets to the Tower of London.
  2. Visit off peak: School holidays and weekends are definitely the busiest time for London’s attractions. If you want to avoid the crowds, then consider visiting mid-week during term time.
  3. Become a members:  A lot of museums, galleries and historic houses now offer annual membership.  Not only does this often result in a huge saving across the year (especially if you intend to visit other places), but you may also be able to bypass the queues and get fast-track entry (where membership is almost worth it in its own right!).
