Description

Located on the A6 on edge of Derbyshire's beautiful Peak District National Park, Great British Car Journey tells the story of the rise and fall of the British motoring industry from the early 1900s to the turn of the century.

Open throughout the year, the award-winning attraction boasts a collection of more than 140 modern British classics, including Elton John’s Bentley Continental T and Lord Baden Powell's Rolls-Royce, as well as some cars with very special back stories.

Beginning with the 1902 Arrol-Johnston and ending with a McLaren 650S, the Great British Journey features all the classics to the lesser-known vehicles, like the Gilbern and Austin Atlantic as well as the quirky and iconic, including the Austin Seven, Peel P50, DeLorean Morris Minor and Frisky.

Each vehicle tells a story and visitors are guided around the exhibition with a unique handheld audio visual device which transports them through a hundred years of British car design and manufacturing.

The attraction also features a café, gift shop and ample free parking as well as an engineering bay where visitors can view Great British Car Journey's vehicle specialists working on classic cars.

In addition to the exhibition, Great British Car Journey is also home to the unique driving experience Drive Dad's Car.

From just £49.00, Drive Dad’s Car gives you the opportunity to get behind the wheel of 38 of the most popular cars ever made in Britain, including the Sunbeam Rapier Convertible, a rare original Avenger and Rolls Royce Silver Spirit to the Ford Capri, Reliant Robin and, of course, the original MK1 Mini.

Free entry to the Great British Car Journey for the driver is included with every Drive Dad’s Car experience purchased. Guests of the driver also receive discounted entry too!

Book tickets online or turn up on the day and purchase from reception.

Nice to see a different way of showing cars with an audio tour and lots of info about the cars. It takes you through the ages of British cars ( as you might guess from the name ). I enjoyed it and the cafe food was really good. I’m not sure that this place would appeal to children so much and I did feel that the entry price was expensive for the time we spent in there. I suppose you could spend longer but it depends how deeply you are into the history of British cars. They do also have a thing called Drive dads car, which I really wanted to do but it seems it’s only certain days which didn’t fit in with our holiday.

If you’re interested in cars than this is very very good. Very friendly staff. Clean toilets. Excellent audio guide. Extensive range of cars all beautifully maintained, restored and cared for. Large cafe and shop on site, was closed when we were there sadly. Looks like a good range of British car themed gifts to buy.

Great day out looking at some of the cars of old that used to be common on eve streets when we were younger. Some classics that we all yearned for back in the day. Well worth a visit, an audio guide is included in the ticket price and the cafe is reasonably priced and serves food and drinks. Well recommended

Wonderful exhibition of British Cars. All cars in good condition. Very clever hand held laptop / audio player loaded with masses of data and stories issued for free on entry, enabling you to investigate in depth any particular car that you are specifically interested in. Older visitors will enjoy seeing again cars that they once owned. Good Cafe for teas, coffees and light meals. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and will definitely visit again.

Excellent for car lovers. Good selection and more in hidden storage hopefully to be displayed in the future. Cafe good fresh food except tea should be in a pot not a cup please. Perhaps more info on cars for those not wanting to wear earphones would be good , still excellent venue.
